Limerick Desmond League Review – Aug 21

Weekly Observer Premier Division

Pipped at the post on the last day of the 2015-16 season, league runner up Broadford Utd got off to a good start with a -0-2 win in Ballingarry. Defending Champions Abbeyfeale Utd, who won the league title in injury time in their last game, this time had to settle for a 2-2 draw away to Glin Rovers. Promoted Carrig Celtic won away to NCW AFC on Friday 19th on a 1-2 score line. Athea Utd had a difficult reintroduction to the Premier, losing 4-0 to NCW Rvs, while Rathkeale also had a 0-3 win over Killeaney.

Weekly Observer Division 1

Relegated Kildimo Utd won 2-4 against Rathkeale B to get off to a good start in Division 1, while their fellow former Premier Division rivals Shannonside FC had to settle for a 1-1 draw away to Abbeyfeale Utd B. Breska Rovers beat Pallaskenry 5-3, while Feenagh lost 2-3 at home to Glantine.

Weekly Observer Division 2

Rockhill Rovers failed to complete the season in 2015-16 but got off to an encouraging start to life in Division 2 with a 4-2 win over NCW Rvs B. Shountrade AFC, who avoided relegation on the last day of the season last term, beat newly promoted Ballingarry B 0-1. The other promoted side Glin Rovers B drew 2-2 away to Adare Utd while Askeaton AFC lost out to the odd goal in 7 at home to Bally Rovers. Ballysteen got the better of St. Itas in Ashford, going home with a 1-4 victory.
