Clonmel Town stayed at the summit of the TSDL Premier Division after a last gasp turnaround against bottom of table Galbally United who gave it their all once again this week.
Town were well on top in the early stages and were rewarded for some fine play on the seventeenth minute when a Jamie Ahearne cross from the right wing found Aidan McGrath and he made no mistake for the league leaders. Town would have been forgiven if they thought it would be a routine win after this but Galbally had other ideas and equalised on the thirty minute mark when Bernard O’Brien converted from the spot after a hand ball in the town area.
Galbally were buoyed by this and took a surprise lead on thirty eight minutes when veteran Quinn Perry rose highest to head home and put his side ahead, a lead that would still be in tact at half time. Town were awarded a penalty of their own on the fifty third minute and Tony Scully duly dispatched it much to the relief of the home side.
Town piled the pressure on thereafter and just when it looked like they wouldn’t get that all important winner David McGrath lashed the ball home with only five minutes remaining as Galbally finally succumbed to a heartbreaking loss. A vital win for Town though as they stay in contention for the title.
