Clonmel Celtic 0
St Michael’s 2
David Slattery 20′ 65′
St Michael’s stayed second in the table on Sunday after a controlled win over Clonmel Celtic.
Saints started the better and should have taken the lead early doors when David Slattery missed from close range. The came the talking point of the game when Seanie O’Hara was denied a penalty despite what looked a foul from Richie Ryan as they both chased down a long ball but the referee disagreed with the home sides claims.
Saints still looked to be on top however and made their possession pay on 20 minutes when Slattery was on hand to score after a great pass from Joey Mulcahy. Celtic would not lie down however and came close to equalising on the stroke of half time when a Kevin Waters free kick was brilliantly saved by Aaron Wall.
The second half was much the same as the first with Saints looking comfortable and with twenty five minutes remaining the game was over as a contest when John O’Brien put in a wonderful cross and Slattery was on hand again to poke the ball home from close range.
Celtic kept going though and were unlucky not to pull one back when Waters again tried his luck but this time the ball went narrowly wide. A good win for Saints and the result itself looks like it has ended Celtics hopes for the title
