TSDL Premier League side Bansha Celtic set up a FAI Junior Cup Third Round tie with North Tipperary & District League leaders Nenagh Celtic after a 4-1 win over TSDL Division 2 side Cashel Town.

This highly anticipated tie burst into life on the thirteenth minute when a corner from Cashel’s Brendan Ryan found the head of Eoin Byrnes who made no mistake from 8 yards. This seemed to wake the hosts up and just over ten minutes later Bernard Fitzgerald found space down the left and his inch perfect cross found the head of Niall Daly to level proceedings. Cashel were dealt a major blow on the half hour mark when goal scorer Eoin Byrnes had to succumb to injury.

Bansha came out of the traps quicker in the second half and seven minutes in a mix up in the Cashel defence led to a penalty for the hosts, Kevin Mullins stepped up and made no mistake to put his side in the driving seat. Cashel showed a lot of grit after this and wouldn’t give up on the tie, twenty-five minutes from time a Gerry Horgan strike was magnificently saved by Callum Fanning in the Bansha goal when it looked like he had no chance.

Cashel tried to stay on the offensive but they were dealt the decisive blow ten minutes from time when Bernard Fitzgerald rose highest in the Cashel box from a corner and his header powered into the back of the net to put clear day light between both side. Bansha’s confidence was at its peak after this and two minutes from time Killian Fitzgerald found space down the wing and his cross was met by a grateful Kevin Mullins who bagged his second of the game. Cashel were afforded one more chance in injury time when they were awarded a penalty but James Harding seen his effort saved by the excellent Fanning.
