Limerick Desmond Preview

Munster Junior Cup 2nd Round (extra time & penalties if required)

Broadford United vs Rathkeale AFC
Two teams in the top three of the Premier Division will face off this Sunday in Cove Park with
the hope of reaching the third round of the Munster Junior Cup. The visiting side are in great
form having made it three wins in a row last weekend with a 3-1 victory over Athea and will want
to make it four this weekend. Broadford have been doing well this season and will want to
bounce back from their loss to second placed Newcastle West Rovers last weekend. They will
be aided by Dromcollogher/Broadford’s Intermediate Hurling finishing up last weekend and will
more than likely be at full strength but I still see Rathkeale progressing to the third round.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Rathkeale AFC.

Newcastle West Rovers vs Carrig Celtic
Two in form teams will do battle this Sunday when Newcastle West Rovers take on Carrig
Celtic. The home side are fresh off the back of their victory over Broadford United and are in the
midst of a three match win streak. Seoirse Joyce and Paudie Kinahan will be looking to keep up
their consistent scoring rate while their back line will look to do their bit by defending just as well
as in previous games having conceded no more than two goals in a game this season. Carrig
Celtic are having a good run themselves with two victories in a row along with zero goals
conceded in those games. Both teams are playing well and will be up for this match but I predict
that Rovers will be joining Rathkeale in the next round.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Newcastle West Rovers

Richard Hogan Cup 2nd Round (extra time & penalties if required)

Newcastle West B vs Rockhill Rovers
Our one and only Richard Hogan Cup game of the weekend sees Division Three’s Newcastle
West B play Division Two’s Rockhill Rovers. Both sides picked up victories last week with the
home side’s being an upset with a 2-1 win against Creeves Celtic while Rockhill put three past
Askeaton. Newcastle couldn’t have picked a better time to pick up their first victory as they head
into a contest against a side a division above them but I still see Rockhill progressing.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Rockhill Rovers

Weekly Observer Premier Division

Athea United vs Abbeyfeale United
Abbeyfeale visit the Vales this Sunday in our first of two Premier Division games where they will
look to extend their unbeaten streak to eleven. Having left it late to snatch a victory last week
against Glin Rovers, their challenge may be a little more difficult when they face an Athea side
looking to recover from last week’s defeat to Rathkeale. Athea are capable of putting it up to
sides with it taking an 88th minute goal from Tralee Dynamos to knock them out of the FAI
Junior Cup. I expect an Abbeyfeale victory but with it being a close call in their game against
Glin I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just as close this time around.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Abbeyfeale United

Glin Rovers vs Newcastle West AFC
Two of the teams that make up the division’s bottom three will do battle this Sunday when Glin
Rovers take on Newcastle West AFC. After having last weekend off, Newcastle will want to
boost their hopes of survival with their first league victory while Glin will be pushed up to at least
7th in the table with a win. Glin have had some good showings this year having held the
reigning champions Abbeyfeale to a draw on the first day along with it taking a late goal from the
Fealesiders to top them last week. Newcastle have had a hard time of it this season and will
want to start getting some results but a Glin victory seems the most likely.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Glin Rovers

Weekly Observer Division 1

Breska Rovers vs Glantine
The fifth and fourth placed teams play each other in our first Division One game of the weekend.
Despite their close positions in the table, Glantine lead Breska by eight points with Breska
having a game in hand. Glantine forced a good result from league leaders Shannonside when
they shared the spoils last weekend and will be looking for a win this weekend to put them at
least second in the table. Breska are another side who had no game last weekend and will no
doubt want to build on the 7-1 victory they picked up in their last outing. Glantine have shown
that they mean business this year so I see them getting the points.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Glantine

Feenagh vs Pallaskenry AFC
Feenagh take on Pallaskenry this Sunday in what should be a close encounter. Feenagh picked
up their first points last weekend with a great result against Kildimo and will jump out of the
dropzone should they pick up another three in this contest. Two of Feenagh’s youths in Dylan
Hayes Daly and Cian Cotter played an important role in their win last weekend and will be
needed again if they are to win this weekend. Pallaskenry are two points ahead of the home
side in the table and share a win over Kildimo with them also. They have had mixed results this
season so far with wins, draws and losses but something tells me that Feenagh can build on
last week and make it two wins on the trot and so my prediction goes to them.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Feenagh

Shannonside FC vs AK United
Shannonside play AK United in the last of our Division One games, a game in which
Shannonside will look to pick up the three points in order to maintain their lead at the top of the
table. The home side probably thought the points were theirs last weekend when two goals in
quick succession from Seamus McSweeney put them in front midway through the second half
before Glantine struck again to make it all level. AK will want to bounce back from two
successive losses when they visit Barrigone but I see Shannonside making it four games
without a loss and therefore picking up the victory.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Shannonside FC

Weekly Observer Division 2

Bally Rovers V Shountrade AFC
Shountrade travel to Ballyhahill in our first Division Two game of the weekend. Both sides
conceded four goals in their losses last weekend and will want to ensure that it doesn’t happen
again this Sunday. Bally Rovers suffered their second loss to Newcastle West Rovers B this
season but despite this have had some good results with a 2-0 victory against third placed
Rockhill Rovers along with a 3-4 win against Askeaton. Shountrade are still continuing to
concede and with Bally being capable of scoring as high as six goals I will have to tip them to
pick up the win.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Bally Rovers

Askeaton AFC V Ballingarry B
Two sides who have been in poor runs of form will face each other when Askeaton host
Ballingarry B. It’s been five games without a win for Askeaton but they will fancy their chances
against bottom placed Ballingarry B. The home side have had some good results this year with
a 3-0 victory against St. Ita’s along with a 4-1 win against Newcastle West Rovers B. The
visitors have failed to get off the ground so far this season so I think that Askeaton will take the

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: Askeaton AFC

Glin Rovers B V St. Ita’s
Glin Rovers B host St. Ita’s in our last Division Two match. St. Ita’s picked up a good win last
weekend putting four past Shountrade with Callum Donoghue being on the mark once again
and will be looking to put some more goals under his belt this Sunday. Glin Rovers B were
unfortunate to lose out on penalties in their cup tie with Carrig Celtic B after forcing it to
extra-time with a Patrick O’Shaughnessy penalty and will want to return to winning ways by
picking up their second league win of the season this weekend. I think that the experience of the
Saints will shine through in this encounter and that they will take the points back to Ashford.

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: St . Ita’s

Weekly Observer Division 3

Feenagh B V Ferry Rangers
We will wrap up this weekend’s preview with our one and only Division Three game as Feenagh
B host Ferry Rangers. Ferry Rangers are hot off of an upset win against Division One’s
Rathkeale B and will undoubtedly fancy themselves for this game following that win. Along with
this they have only lost one game which was to Division Two’s Glin Rovers B. Feenagh B have
struggled with just a draw to their name so far so I will have to go with Ferry to pick up the win

StoppageTime.ie Prediction: F erry Rangers
