St Michaels Win 5-4 On Penalties

St Michaels potential five star season continues after they were today crown Munster Champions Trophy Champions after a narrow penalty shoot-out win over Clare & District League side Newmarket Celtic in Newhill.

Saints found themselves a goal to the good at half time thanks to a Shane Ryan effort but would have considered themselves very lucky as Celtic seen an Eoin O’Brien penalty saved by Adrian Walsh amongst other vital saves from the veteran shot stopper.

Celtic did get their equaliser in the second half as they were awarded a second penalty, this time Eoin Hayes stepped up and made no mistake.

The game could not find a winner in normal time or indeed extra time so a dreaded shoot out was needed and it would be the Tipperary Southern & District League side that would go on to win it by five goals to four.

Saints remain on course for an incredible four trophies having now notched up the TSDL Premier Division and the Munster Champions Cup. They will also contest the FAI Junior Cup Final against Sheriff YC or Aisling Annacotty whilst also facing Geraldines in the Munster Junior Cup Semi Final and also have a Tipperary Cup Semi Final to look forward to.
