Saints took control of this game early on and found themselves a goal to the good as Irish Junior International Shane Ryan scored a speculative effort after just eight minutes. United had a couple of chances to equalise after this but efforts from John Murphy and Joe Harte were thwarted by former Carrick netminder Adrian Walsh.

The hosts then upped the tempo and put their opponents to the sword as goals from Willie Armshaw (34th min) and Jim Carr (40th min) all but ended the game as a contest.

The second half was a tighter affair but again the hosts again proved to be way to strong for the Waterford side and further goals from David Slattery (66th min) and Paul Breen (85th min) ensured that Saints would be in the draw for the semi finals.
