Sources close to stoppagetime.ie have today confirmed that a merger has been agreed between Roscrea clubs Killavilla United and Roscrea United. The deal, initially sought by Streamstown Celtic, was agreed after Killavilla agreed to enter the North Tipperary & District League.
The club is to be known as Killavilla/Roscrea for the immediate future and is to be managed by Killavilla veteran Brian Brooks.
It has also been rumoured that the club will replace Streamstown Celtic, another Roscrea club who have announced their withdrawal from the NT&DL for this season, in the Premier Division but it is not confirmed that they will be playing in the coveted John Delaney Cup at the start of this season.
Upon their withdrawal from the league Celtics hierarchy urged their former players to play for the new Killavilla/Roscrea club on the coming season.
This is a huge lift for the NT&DL after they lost Nenagh Afc to Limerick a year ago but a serious loss to the CCFL who have already lost numerous clubs since the end of the last season and Killavilla were promoted to their top tier for next season.
A major shift in football is expected in the region and it will make for an interesting summer.
