Ballymackey travelled to Timeighter to face Roscrea Town in a match with both sides desperate for a win. Indeed it will be the Balinree side that will go home feeling aggrieved as two pieces of bad luck late on see them drop a two goal advantage.

The treacherous conditions meant that the game started slowly with both sides struggling to gain any momentum early on. But that all changed on fifteen minutes when Ballymackey number ten Phillippe dribbled his way through the Town defence as they stood off and his shot some how managed to trickle into the bottom corner to send the away side into delirium. The game continued to be scrappy and on the twenty  third minute Town were awarded a penalty as Shane Moloney was felled in the area, Moloney then stepped up but his spot kick was saved by Eugene Foley in the Ballymackey goal.

Town continued to press but they couldn’t find the target despite half chances from John Pio Fitzpatrick and Craig Phelan. Foley and Darragh McDonald were proving very hard to beat in the Ballymackey defence.

The second half started as the first ended and Town continued to push forward and good play from Fitzpatrick down the right found Craig Phelan in the box but his snap shot on the turn went hight and wide. They away side though were still dangerous and the impressive Denis Haverty put Alan Kelly through but Bryan O’Lone was equal to his effort on the fifty seventh minute.

Town would equalise however on the sixty second minute when a well flighted Tom Ahern header was headed home by Niall O’Lone. Roscrea would continue to press and reverted to a 3-4-3 formation with twenty minutes to go and this proved to be their undoing as after so good defending by Ray McNicholas the ball broke to Denis O’Connor and his twenty five yard daisy cutter found the bottom corner to send the away side ahead with only fifteen minutes to go.

Only three minutes later the Bally boys doubled their lead when a fantastic deft through ball from Dylan Reid found Haverty bearing down on goal and he tucked the ball under the onrushing O’Lone to grab what would have been his sides first league win of the campaign.

Roscrea struggled to make any impression for the next few minutes but their possession finally counted three minutes from time when a Brian Franks corner was headed into his own goal by Alan Kelly to half the deficit. Heartbreak would soon follow as another dead ball from Franks, this time a free kick, was floated into the area and Eugene Foley spilled the ball at the feet of Ray McNicholas who couldn’t miss from that range with only a minute to go. Roscrea would continue the press but the winner wasn’t to come and Town’s abysmal run continues as Ballymackey walk away with a very credible point.

A great game for the neutral even if the weather did hinder what football their might have been. Brian Franks was again on form for Town aswell as McNicholas whilst Denis Haverty and Denis O’Connor impressed for the away side but the stoppagetime.ie Man Of The Match goes to Darragh McDonnell, the centre half was immense throughout.
