Tipperary Town Manager another NT&DL Premier Division scalp as they moved into round 4 of the FAI Junior Cup following a 2-1 victory over Cloughjordan Fc at Arra Road.
Cloughjordan started better and soon had chances but Paul Lake could convert. Next in line was Shane Leahy and Vinnie Godfrey for Tipp Town but their chances went abegging also. A somewhat tight first half ended goalless bit the NT&DL side would have felt they had the better of it.
Clough flew out of the traps again in the second half with Kevin Kennedy and Paul Lake scuppering two half chances early on. Then on the hour mark the visitors were awarded a free kick 25 yards out and the impressive Paul Lake sent his unstoppable shot into the top corner.
This seemed to lift the Town boys and on 68 minutes they equalised when a cross from Leahy found Chilly Hogan who volleyed home from 10 yards making no mistake for his first goal for the club. Then 5 minutes later Town took the lead as great work from Stephen Quinn found Godfrey in space twenty yards from goal and he’s low drive gave Jason Ryan no chance in the goal.
Clough pushed for an equaliser that was never to come as Paddy Finnan was in top form in the Tipp Town goal.
A fine achievement for Town as they make the 4th round draw for the first time ever and this team are proving to be a handful for anyone they have played recently. A bad day for the NT&DL as they are left with only one representative in the Cup.
