Thurles Town 4
Roscrea Town 1
Thurles continued their 100% streak in the NT&DL Premier Division after a routine 4-1 win over Roscrea Town.
In a clamp morning at the Greyhound Stadium Roscrea started the better and had a chance cleared off the line early on after a defensive scramble directly from a corner. Soon after Thurles took the lead when Barry Ryan was played through and he finished excellently past Roddy Teehan in the Roscrea goal. Roscrea perhaps had the better of possession but fail to capitalise and we’re made to pay when Barry Ryan again pounced against the run of play to double his sides advantage. Craig Phelan should of halved the arrears on the stroke of half time but his effort was well saved by Graeme Loughman in the Thurles goal.
The second half was a cagey if not dull affair and Thurles were ravaged by injuries when both Ted O’Connor and Loughman were forced off the field. Roscrea were awarded a somewhat fortuitous penalty five minutes from time and Brian Franks stepped up and tucked it away nicely to get his side back into it.
That joy was shortlived when straight from the kickoff Roscrea native Paul Kirwan was felled in the box and Barry Ryan stepped up and made no mistake for his hattrick and his 21st of the season. Liam Hickey ended the rout in injury time as Thurles took another step towards their long awaited league title.
Roscrea’s firepower was to their detriment but Brian Franks was their outstanding player on the day.
Barry Ryan and Michael Foley were the best for the hosts and the former was the stoppagetime.ie Man Of The Match after his fantastic hattrick.
