Portumna Town

Thurles Town ended a six-game winless run in emphatic style after a 5-0 win over Portumna Town in the Ricky Fogarty Cup Quarter Final at the Greyhound Stadium.

Town were out to avenge last weekend’s Tipperary Cup loss to the same opposition and they made the perfect start when Christy Burke found the net after just four minutes, the veteran striker curling the ball into the top right corner from the edge of the area giving Town Keeper Mike Starr no chance. Twenty minutes later it would be two-nil after a goal kick from Starr landed at the feet of player/manager Paraic Fogarty and he chipped the ball beautifully over the helpless Starr.

Things got much worse in the second half for the visitor as only five minutes as the experienced Fogarty got in behind the defence, who had stopped to paly the offside, and he calmly slotted the ball home to end the game as a contest. Fogarty made it a hattrick just before the hour mark as he dispatched a penalty and Burke rounded off the scoring, grabbing his second, eleven minutes from time neatly tucking the ball under Starr.

Town face newly crowned Premier Division Champions Killavilla Utd in the semi-final.
