Portumna Survive As Clodiagh Make Swift Return To Division 1

NT&DL Premier Division

Portumna Town

Patrick O’Sullivan 8’

Lee Maxwell 75’

Clodiagh Rangers

Portumna Town ensured a third straight season in the North Tipperary & District League top flight after a comfortable 2-0 win over the now relegated Clodiagh Rangers Fc.

Nothing short of a win would have been good enough for the visitors here and their task was made all the harder on just eight minutes, a Ryan Hanrahan corner was punched away by Adrian Cooke, but only as far as Patrick O’Sullivan and he, in turn, unleashed a beautiful effort from the edge of the area to put the home side into the lead.

Portumna sealed theirs and indeed Rangers fate with fifteen minutes remaining after a great inter change between Malcolm Flannery, Darragh Barry and O’Sullivan sent Lee Maxwell through on goal and he made no mistake in slotting the ball past the luckless Cooke. Portumna might have added to their lead late on bit David Nee’s effort came back off the crossbar.

A tough Season for Clodiagh but there is little doubt that they will come back strong next season and be in contention for a quick return to the league’s top division.
