Portumna Survive As Ballymackey Go Down

Portumna Town will have a second season in the NT&DL Premier Division after a 3-1 play off win against Ballymackey Fc, who will now play Division One football nec=xt season.

Kieran Curran’s Portumna should have taken the lead twenty minutes in as Garry Curran was felled in the area, the striker dusted himself off and struck the penalty but it was excellently saved by the forever young John Kenneally in the Ballymackey goal.

Portumna eventually grabbed the lead fifteen minutes from time as brilliant link up play between Ramy O’Hara and Rory Finnegan ended with Shane Anthony Kelly beating two defenders and slotting the ball past Kenneally. The Galway side doubled their lead with five minutes remaining as Patrick O’Sullivan rifled the ball home much to the joyous roars of his sides support.

Ballymackey however, refused to roll over and halved the deficit moments later as a Terry Delaney free kick found the net. Portumna wouldn’t be denied however and they sealed their status as a Premier Division team twominutes from time as Curran made up for his earlier penalty miss to slot the ball home under pressure.
