The NT&DL’s league action got underway this weekend and we seen an incredible 57 goals in just twelve games.
The Premier Division started with a bang on Thursday night as defending champions Thurles Town started their campaign off with a 6-3 win in Drombane against newly promoted Clodiagh Rangers Fc. A Christy Burke hattrick was topped off by goals from Tommy Brophy (2) and Paraic Fogarty while goals from Matt Stakelum (2) and John Carew weren’t to be enough for the hosts.
Killavilla Utd sent out a huge warning to their rivals after beating Nenagh Celtic by seven goals to two in Villa Park on Saturday night. A brace apiece from Paul Kirwan and Joe Moloney on their return to the club were added to by a gaol apiece from Shane Moloney, Rory Murphy and Brian Moloney, Mark Walsh and Jimmy Hynes found the target for Celtic.
Last season’s runners up BT Harps grabbed a hard-fought win in Loughtagalla Park against a very strong Borroway Rovers side. Shane Dunne bagged Rovers only goal but Harps found the net through Stevie Quinlan and Stefan Leahy to gain three important points even at this early stage of the season.
The Division 1 got off to a seven goal start on Thursday night as newly promoted Shinrone Utd put five past Rearcross Fc. A hattrick from Ray Cordial was added toby goals from Derek McLoughlin and Jason McCormack in their rout while Derek O’Toole and Michael O’Gorman’s goals were in vain for the hosts.
Fellow newly promoted side Ardcroney Fc grabbed a very important three points in their return to Division 1 football thanks to a solitary Ross Hughes goal against Borrisokane Fc.
Cloughjordan and Moneygall served up a five-goal thriller on Sunday morning with the latter coming out on top of a 3-2 score line. Josh Wynne, Joe Callaghan, and Jack O’Brien were on target for Moneygall while goals from Alex Wade and Ruairí McBride weren’t enough for the recently relegated Clough side.
Sallypark Odhráns and Gurtagarry had an early derby day humdinger in which the hosts ran out 2-1 winners thanks to a brace from Simon O’Meara, Steven Cummins was on target for Gurta.
The Division 2 in the North Tipperary and District League now has 11 teams, a jump of four teams from last years competition and as always goals were aplenty with twenty goals in five games.
Lough Derg ran out 4-1 winners against Clodiagh Rangers B, Conor Monaghan, Emmett Lyons, Dave Cassidy, and Jack Lynch were all on target for the hosts while Leonard Purcell grabbed a consolation for the visitors.
Holycross Fc put out a B team in the NT&DL once more and they got off to a winning start after a 3-1 win away to Templetuohy. A brace from Jojo O’Meara and another from Justin Shelly were enough to give their side the three points.
Clonmore Utd’s return to NT&DL football ended in defeat at home to Arra Rovers, Jack Prout got on the scoresheet for the hosts but goals from Cathal O’Brien, Nigel Flood and Dermot O’Halloran were enough to give Rovers the three points as they look to mount a title challenge.
Nenagh Celtic B entertained Birdhill Fc in a thrilling affair In the TEC. The away side managed to win on their return after ten years by three goals to one. Michail Crowley, Evan Gleeson and Paul Coleman were all on hand to give the away side their first three points while a penalty from Enrico Casey and another from Marky Walsh weren’t to be enough for Celtic.
Moneygall Fc B and Silvermines ended a one all draw. Tj Timmons was on the score sheet for the away side while an Anto Deveroux goal was enough to see the spoils shared.
