This Week’s game of the week was of course very hard to pick as across in the Greyhound Stadium Thurles Town face TSDL Premier Division outfit Tipperary Town in the 4th Round of the FAI Junior Cup. We have however picked the local derby that is Ballymackey and Gurtagarry.
Amongst the obvious bragging rights this game has huge implications on where the NT&DL Second Division will be come the end of the season. With BT Harps sitting in second place in the table they have little chance of catching Gurta with only two games left. Ballymackey however in third know that two of their last five league games are against their neighbours and in reality both games can win them the title and promotion or indeed finish off any chance of that promotion (which cannot happen if their A team are relegated as expected).
The Balinree side have lost only two of their eleven league outings whilst their opponents and league leaders have remained unbeaten in thirteen. Gurta have been nothing short of spectacular in front of goal as they have managed 70 goals and conceded just the 14. Ballymackey have themselves been impressive notching up 36 and conceding 15.
The leaders have been the best team in the division this far and are strong all over the park and manager Johnny Moyles will start with two time Goalkeeper Of The Year Brendan Hayes between the sticks. If injury free the back line will consist of Boland, Eamon O’Rourke, Hassett and Captain Kieran Brislane……. a quartet that have been near immaculate all season.
With Forde, Delaney and Cummins marshalling the midfield this makes it so much easier for Ronan Kinane to grab the freedom to set Paul Ryan on his way to being top scorer in all divisions for this season. That is just some of the talent at the disposal of the Latteragh side and it is no wonder they are on the brink of the championship.
Ballymackey however have not gone away all season and under the guise of Jimmy and Anthony Kenneally they could prove very hard to beat here. Shane Nolan has been in great form in the goal and has time and time again made important saves this season. They are however at their best up the top of the pitch and goals this season from Mark and Gary McCarthy have helped Timmy Fleming and Co along the way aswell as Colin Hall being unusually clinical in front of goal. A hardened team as always and they know they have to win which could make them as dangerous as ever.
Gurta’s Paul Ryan has notched up 27 league goals this season and 30 in all competitions while Fleming has 12 in the league and 19 in all competitions.
Stoppagetime.ie feels that Gurta will have too much class here despite rumours of injuries coming from their camp. Their sheer volume of goals shows that no team at this level have stopped them from scoring while they themselves have shut teams out on numerous occasions. The Bally boys will need Fleming at his beat if they are to keep their title chances alive but we fear this could be another walk in the park for the away side.
Stoppagetime.ie Prediction: Ballymackey Fc B 1-4 Gurtagarry Fc
