BT Harps go second in the NT&DL Premier Division tonight after a two one victory over Roscrea Town, the third time they’ve beaten Roscrea this season. Goals from Chris Eid and Johnny Coleman were enough to see off Town despite a late Shane Moloney consolation.

Roscrea very nearly took the lead on eight minutes when Ray McNicholas headed onto the crossbar from a Brian Franks corner, Harps keeper Kuba Beban did very well to get a touch. Harps responded soon after when Tommy Brophy ran through on goal but his shot unluckily hit the post. Brophy should have put Harps ahead two minutes later when he found space in the box from an Aidan Fogarty cross but he shot the ball over the bar when it seemed easier to score.

On the seventeenth minute Roscrea again went close to taking the lead when John Cordial passed the ball to Moloney and his shot agonisingly rebounded off the crossbar. A huge battle ensued there after with both sides looking to take control and it would be the visitors that did so, Dean McEnroe found himself running through on goal from a Chris Eid pass and his effort crashed off the bar. Harps would take the lead a minute later when the impressive Eid got onto a Tommy Brophy corner, which looked very far outside the corner quadron, and his bullet header proved too good for O’Lone in the goal.

The second have was a much tighter affair with Harps managing the game well but on the fifty eighth minute a loose pass by Beban was intercepted by Moloney and the resulting shot was poor when the striker had more time than he thought. Roscrea should have equalised five minutes later after a quick break found Brian Franks in the area only for the midfielder not to get the shot away.

Harps doubled their lead with eight minutes remaining when a Brophy free kick wasn’t dealt with by Roddy Teehan and Captain Johnny Coleman was on hand to tap the ball home. Roscrea did rally however and should have halved the deficit when a Brian Franks ball over the top found Craig Phelan but he shot wide when really he should have scored.

Roscrea did get a consolation goal two minutes into injury time when Cordial found Moloney in the box and his quick shot on the turn beat Beban.

In tight game that Harps shaded this effectively ends any chance of Roscrea claiming the title. Both Niall O’Lone and Ray McNicholas put in positive performances for the hosts along with John Cordial who was a constant threat. Darragh Gleeson, Lyndon Fairbrother and Dean McEnroe were very impressive for the visitors but the stoppagetime.ie Man Of The Match goes to Chris Eid. His battle with Brian Franks in the middle of midfield was one of huge importance and he did not disappoint, that coupled with scoring the opener.
