7th Heaven for Villa as Celtic Are Well Beaten

NT&DL Premier Division

Killavilla Utd 7-2 Nenagh Celtic

Killavilla Utd made a terrific start to their league campaign as a fantastic second half display helped them see off Nenagh Celtic in Villa Park.

Villa looked good from the off and took an early lead through Shane Moloney, the striker ran through to finish the ball after a Paul Kirwan flick after just fifteen seconds. Celtic replied quickly as a brilliant Mark Walsh free kick found the net .

The goals were coming quick and fast at this point and it would be the veteran Paul Kirwan who would put Villa back in front mid-way through the first half, a wonderful ball across the area from Joe Moloney was easily tapped home as the two former Thurles Town men combined brilliantly. Again, Celtic wouldn’t lie down, and they were soon on level terms again as a Jimmy Hynes bullet header gave Jason Ryan no chance in the Villa goal. Things might have gotten better for the away side minutes later, but Jimmy Hynes seen a goal ruled out for offside.

Just as the game looked to be going to half time at 2-2, Villa had different ideas, as Joe Moloney found space at the edge of the area and his left foot drive nestled into the bottom corner to send his side into half time a goal to the good.

This seemed to have knocked the wind out of Celtic and Villa found themselves two goals to the good just after the break as a Brian Moloney volley from outside the area gave the keeper little chance. The game remained tight after this until the final fifteen minutes as further goals from Kirwan, Joe Moloney and Rory Murphy ended the game as a contest and gave the hosts the start they desperately craved.
