Roscommon and District League Round-up by Vincent Brookes

Castlerea Celtic share the lead of the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League following a 4 – 0 win over last season’s Champions Ballymoe FC at Castlerea. Nathan Bligh scored two Peter Farrell and Conor Murray added one each for the winners.

In their first League meeting since 1989 Boyle Celtic beat Skyvalley Rovers 5-2 at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell. David Grehan headed a Conor Duignan free kick to the Boyle Celtic net after only three minutes and only a fine stop by the visitors keeper Chris Casey denied him a second shortly afterwards. Boyle were level with seventeen played when Michael Corrigan headed a Dillon Edwards corner kick to the Skyvalley net. Dillon Edwards added a second before half time with a neat chip over the advancing keeper. Corrigan scored his second before Conor Duignan converted a penalty kick for the home side after David Grehan was fouled. Two excellent saves from Chris Casey denied David Landy and Adrian Mannion while at the other end Michael Corrigan completed his hat trick and Shane Battles and added one to secure Boyle’s first points of the season.

St Peter’s beat Dysart 7- 3 at Dysart to keep their winning run going. Darragh Concannon, who was playing for his third club in as many seasons, converted a penalty kick for St Peter’s in the first minute and Alan Coffey and Mark Sherlock added two more as the half time break approached. Following a fine passing move Niall Corbett pulled one back for the home side to leave the score 3- 1 at the break. Early in the second half Keith Moore was fouled and Paddy Neary scored from the spot to give Dysart a big boost. Darragh Concannon restored the winners two goal lead but Paddy Neary scored again from the penalty spot for Dysart. Near the end Concannon completed his hat trick and Noel McGee and Bobby Malone added one each for St Peter’s.

Ballinasloe Town beat a weak Ballaghaderreen side 8 – 0 at Ballaghaderreen. Mark Duffy scored three and Des Hope, Mamood, Gary Canavan, Gary Egan and Kenneth Kenny scored one each for an undefeated Ballinasloe Town side.

Cloonfad United drew 2 – 2 with St John’s Athletic at Cloonfad. St John’s were in front on two occasions through Alan Murray and Tommy Hurley. Dylan Ruane and Conor Flynn replied for Cloonfad with all the goals coming in the second half.

In the Norio’s Division 1 Strokestown United beat Kilkerrin United 5 – 4 at Strokestown. This was a real thrilled with both teams ahead at various stages. Strokestown scored the winner in the third minute of time added on at the end of the game. Darren Clabby scored three and Derek Connellan two for the winners. Damien Mahon, Conor Moran, Kieran Gannon and Declan Murphy replied for Kilkerrin United.

Dunmore Town beat Lough Harps 2- 1 at Dunmore. Anthony Broderick scored both goals for Dunmore Town.

In the Killeen’s Sports Grounds Division 2 Cam Celtic beat Castlerea Celtic 5 – 0 at Cam. David Cunniffe and Gareth Mulligan scored two each and Mark McAuley added a fifth for Jimmy Reynolds men.

Glen Celtic beat Cloonfad 2 – 0 at Glenamaddy. Kieran Trautt gave the home side a 1- 0 after eight minutes and McDara Geraghty added a second with ten left to play.

Roscommon United beat Rahara Rovers 5 – 2 at Roscommon. Jamie Bracken scored three John Maroney and Paul Mc Hugh added one each with Vando scoring both goals for Rahara Rovers.
