Shannon Town claimed their first ever league title in dramatic fashion when Colin Scanlon scored a magnificent hattrick and bring his side back from a two goal deficit in the process in front of a packed McDonagh Park crowd.

After a tense first half in which Eoin O’Brien found himself unlucky on 31 minutes when his header cannoned off the crossbar. That chance came between two great saves by Darren Whelan in the Shannon Town goal from Kelly and Hayes.

The second half started in unbelievable fashion when one minute in Hayes broke the deadlock with a deft finish after a brilliant pass from McCarthy. Celtic doubled their lead and seemed to all but secur the title on the hour mark when Paddy Purcell powered home a header.

Shannon Refused to give up after this and got a lifeline twenty five minutes from time when Colin Scanlon converted from the spot. Things becameeven more interesting on 69 minutes when Scanlon levelled affairs and brought his side within touching distance of their first ever league title.

Town completed a remarkable comeback with twelve minutes remaining when Scanlon completed his hattrick and in the process sending his side top of the table with only minutes of the season remaining. Indee Town held on to become champions for the first time and this will go down as one of the greatest comebacks in CDL history.
