Limerick Desmond League Review 12/3/2017

Munster Junior Cup Quarter Final (extra time & penalties if required).

Broadford United joined Pike Rovers, Fairview Rangers and St. Michael’s in the last four of the Munster Junior Cup after their 1-0 win at home to Aisling Annacotty. The pivotal goal came in with fifteen minutes remaining in the first half when Willie O’Brien, who was one of the best players on the field, waited patiently on the edge of the box for an opening before spotting Bryan Hannigan on the left wing and playing him through to slot the ball past the keeper. Weekly Observer Desmond Cup 2nd Round (extra time & penalties if required).

Knockaderry made Rathkeale earn their place in the next round as a goal in the second half gave the away side a close win.

Weekly Observer Desmond Cup 3rd Round (extra time & penalties if required).

Pallaskenry scored five for the second game in a row when they were 5-1 winners at home to Abbeyfeale United B. Lorcan Fitzgerald was the star of the show yet again with a hat-trick while Alan O’Donnell and Ger Garvey scored one each.

St. Ita’s opted to play their Desmond Cup game on Saturday night at the Manor Fields in Adare where they were defeated 7-0 by Abbeyfeale United who led 1-0 at half-time.

Ballingarry got a big scare in their Desmond Cup tie as it took extra-time for them to overcome Newcastle West Rovers B. It was the away side who took the lead first with Ballingarry’s winner coming late in the second period of extra-time.

Riedy Cup Semi Final (extra time & penalties if required).

A goal in both halves from Shane Reynolds gave Shountrade an upset win away to Glantine to put themselves in the Riedy Cup Final.

While the other Semi-Final saw another shock as Creeves Celtic put five past Feenagh without reply to reach the final of this competition for the second year in a row.

Weekly Observer Premier Division League Cup Quarter Finals (extra time & penalties if required).
Carrig Celtic made amends for their last loss to Killeaney with a 2-0 win in Knockdown.

Weekly Observer Division 1 League Cup Quarter Final (extra time & penalties if required).

While the trend of upsets continued into the Division League Cup where Kildimo United overcame Shannonside by the odd goal in three to reach the Semi-Final stage. Kildimo took the lead in the first half but the game was all square once again when Shannonside hit the net ten minutes before the break. A Paudie Walsh penalty in the second half was the difference maker as he successfully converted his spot kick to give his side the victory.

Rathkeale B booked their spot in the last four with a 1-0 win at home to Granagh United.

Weekly Observer Division 2 League Cup 1st Round (extra time & penalties if required).

Our only Division Two League Cup game saw Adare United progress to the next round with a 3-1 win over Rockhill Rovers with goals coming from Dara Shanahan, Jack English and Ian Derwin for the home side.

Weekly Observer Division 2.

Ballysteen went ten points clear at the top of the table with a 3-0 win over Glin Rovers B.

Weekly Observer Division 3.

Newcastle West B continued their great form with a 4-0 win over Feenagh B. Newcastle found themselves 2-0 up after twenty minutes thanks to goals from Jason Cummins and Stephen Browne and would maintain that two goal lead until the break. It was extended to three when Cummins found the net after half-time with Jaz Singh grabbing the fourth and final goal with fifteen minutes remaining.
