Tipperary Town moved into joint third in the TSDL Premier Division after a good afternoons work at home to Cashel Town. It was not all one way traffic for Town though and they went behind on the seventh minute when Adam Kennedy smashed the ball home after Tipp didn’t clear their lines from a corner.
Tipp took control thereafter and but for the Cashel keeper they’d a been ahead. They finally beat the resistance on twenty minutes when Steven Quinn struck a spectacular free kick from twenty five yards leaving the keeper with no chance. The game changed again however when Cashel came back into it and but for two save from Paddy Finnan Tipp would have been behind at half time.
Tipp came out in the second half like a new team and took control from the off and five minutes in Vinny Godfrey bagged his eighteenth of the season with a wonderful volley from a Quinn cross. Tipp doubled their lead with twenty five minutes to go when Andrew Vance found Shane Leahy with a superb pass and Leahy buried the ball into the bottom corner. Their were calls for a goal of the season award on seventy m I notes when the Leahy twins carved open the Cashel defence, great work from Shane and he passed to Donough who in turn dinked the ball past the defender and he then let fly into the top corner to end the game as a contest. Four became five with ten minutes remaining when Godfrey turned provider for Quinn to grab his second of the game. Cashel were afforded a consolation in injury time when a Tipp player put the ball into his own net.
Another fine win for Tipperary Town and a welcome boost before next weekends Munster Junior Cup game against Dungarvan of Waterford.
Man of the Match on the day goes to Shane Leahy who was immense throughout
