FAI U/17 Challenge Cup
Peake Villa 3-2 Mannulla Fc
Liam McCormack Michael Fahy (2)
Darren Flood (2)
Peake Villa’s U/17”s have today emulated their senior counterparts FAI Junior Cup run of last season with a magnificent 3-2 win over Mayo outfit Manulla Fc..
The game started at a hectic pace and it would be the away side that went ahead as Michael Fahy powered home a header on the fifteen minute mark. Manulla continued to press and could have doubled their lead moments later as Fahy went through one on one but Eoghan Tinkler was on hand to save.
Villa equalised five minutes later when they were awarded a free kick after a foul on Jack Casey, Liam McCormack stepped up and sublimely curled the ball into the top left hand corner (Video Below) to level proceedings. Villa took the game to their opponents after this and got their just desserts on the stroke of half time when a fantastic Max Hackett cross put Darren Flood in and he calmly poked the ball past the onrushing keeper and into the net, much to the delight of the home crowd.
Villa found themselves two goals ahead with twenty five minutes remaining as McCormack burst down the left and his cross was met by Flood who grabbed his second of the game with a very neat close range finish (Video Below). Manulla to their credit refused to give up and ensured a nervy ending for the hosts with thirteen minutes remaining as Fahy grabbed his second of the game as he went through one on one and slotted the ball past the very impressive Tinkler in the Villa goal.
A huge win for the TSDL outfit who now face Cork side Springfield Ramblers in the Quarter Finals on March 4th.
