Peake Villa tonight claimed a John Delaney Cup Final place after beating cross town rivals Thurles Town by the odd goal in five at the Greyhound Stadium.
Indeed it was Town who went into half-time a goal to the good as the free scoring Barry Ryan continued his fine form from last season with a speculative effort ten minutes before the break to put his side a goal to the good.
Villa however were quickest out of the traps in the second half and were rewarded four minutes in when Pippy Carroll was on hand to level proceedings. Ten minutes later Villa found themselves in front when last seasons 50 goal star Ronan McGuire put his side ahead.
It would stay this way until injury time as Town grabbed a lifeline through the seemingly ageless Paul Kirwan to send the game into extra-time. That was as good as it got for Town as Carroll grabbed his second and what proved to be his sides winner eight minutes into extra time.
Villa will now play St Micheal’s on Saturday in a fitting final to start their season off.
