Clodiagh Rangers were tonight crowned the NT&DL First Division Shield Champions after a fantastic 4-3 win over Moneygall in Drombane.
Moneygall got off to a flying start and were ahead on the ten minute mark when the free scoring Joe Callaghan found the net. Clodiagh wouldn’t let this deter them and equalised on twenty-two minutes through Paul Doyle. Moneygall regained their lead on the stroke of half time however when Callaghan again found space and slotted the ball home.
The second half started with both sides looking to grab a foothold and indeed it would be Rangers who took the game to their opponents. Some intense pressure paid off on the hour mark when Mark Quinlan levelled the game. Rangers continued to press and were awarded a penalty ten minutes later and Doyle stepped up and made no mistake to put his side ahead for the first time. Perhaps the goal of the game was scored five minutes later when Quinlan grabbed his fifth of the season with a sweet free kick. Moneygall would not drop their heads however and gave them a fighting chance with five minutes remaining when Callaghan completed his hattrick from the penalty spot.
It was not to be however as Rangers seen the game out and made it a terrific start to their season.
