Portumna Pay The Penalty As Celtic March On In Munster

Munster Junior Cup

Nenagh Celtic 2-2 Portumna Town (AET Celtic Win 2-1 On Pens)

Nenagh Celtic made it to the open round of the Munster Junior Cup with a penalty shootout win over fellow NT&DL side Portumna Town.

The away side took the lead after just ten minutes as Ronan O’Meara’s delicate chip beat Damien Corcoran in the Celtic goal. It would only take seven minutes for Celtic to reply however as Sean Healy was on hand to level affairs.

Town would once again find themselves in front four minutes later as a Rory Finnegan free kick gave Corcoran little chance in the Celtic goal. Celtic would again be level on the half hour mark as Danny Ryan popped up in the area to slot home after Town failed to clear a long throw.

The second half didn’t live up to expectations as conditions deteriorated and the game seen no more goals until the penalty shootout in which Niddy Ryan and Stevie Ryan slotted Celtic into the next round despite Ciaran Haugh scoring the opening penalty.
