FAI Youths Cup 1st Round
Ballymackey Fc 4
Clonmel Celtic 0
The North Tipperary & District League’s Ballymackey made it into the second round draw of the FAI Youths Cup after a hard fought 4-0 win over Tipperary Southern & District League’s Clonmel Celtic in Ballinree today.
The game started at a fierce pace with superb passing from both sides as they looked to grab an early foothold. Indeed it would be the home side that would grab the lead on fifteen minutes as Aidan White was on hand to finish brilliantly. White might have doubled his sides lead moments later but for an outstanding save from the Celtic keeper, only one of many on the day. Celtic came into the gamemore after this and some great pressure on the Ballymackey goal seen keeper Jack Mahoney on top of his game pulling off three great saves before half time to keep his side a goal to the good.
Ballymackey, however, started the second half as they started the first and would find themselves two goals to the good seven minutes in as Neil Connolly rifled the ball into the roof of the net to give his side some much needed breathing space. Celtic would push forward thereafter and will have found themselves unlucky not to get on the scoresheet as Mahoney continued to be in fine form and they would pay for some missed chances as after a goalmouth scramble Connolly would grab his second of the game, toe poking the ball into the net. Ballymackey would grab a fourth soon after as White also grabbed his second of the day to end the game as a contest and ensure his side would be in the draw for the second round.
