Peake Villa have made it to the quarter finals of the Munster Junior Cup after a thrilling 3-2 extra time win over cross town rivals Thurles Town.
Martin Darmody put Town ahead early in the first half but Mikey Wade levelled proceedings ten minutes later. Villa seen themselves take the lead five minutes before the break when Tommy Teer was on hand to score.
The game stayed like this, thanks mainly to the goalkeeping exploits of Graeme Loughman, until three minutes from time when Conor English unleashed a screamer to send the game into extra time.
Extra time proved to be a very incident packed affair as Villa were awarded a penalty as the linesman overruled the referee’s initial decision of a goal kick, Wade stepped up and gave Loughman no chance in the Town goal. This would be the way the game ended as Town had both Stevie Coppinger and Derek Loughnane sent off late on.
Villa now travel to Limerick to face Janesboro, who beat Pearse Celtic 5-1 earlier in the day.
