Curran Nets Winner As Portumna Beat Ballymackey

NT&DL Premier Division

Ballymackey Fc 0-1 Portumna Town

Portumna Grabbed a vital win against fellow relegation threatened Ballymackey in Ballinree on Sunday courtesy of a fine finish from Garry Curran.

Ballymackey started the brighter with the stiff breeze in the first half and with a mixture of youth and experience they passed the ball in precise fashion but the Town defence coped admirably as the home side failed to take advantage of their possession.

Both keepers looked likethey were in control in the first half as Josh Gaynor (Portumna) and Timmy Fleming (Ballymackey) dealt with everything that would come their way. This all changed three minutes before half time as the away side grabbed the only goal of the game, Shane Anthony Kelly cleared off his line to Kevin Brummell in the centre who in turn drove the ball forward to Garry Curran taking it to left side of the 18 and striking it sweetly with his left passed Fleming in the Ballymackey goal.

The second half was a tense affair and both keepers were again on top of their game and Portumna held out for what could be a crucial win in their quest for survival.
