Rearcross Fc 2

Portumna Town 5

First Division leaders Portumna travelled to Rearcross for a Friday night Kick Off and came away with a 5-2 win toput them 5 points clear of Borroway Rovers at the top of the table.

Rearcross got off to a good start with a headed goal on 15 minutes courtesy of Greg Kennedy. Portumna applied good pressure and with a Rory Finnegan corner on 37 minutes Ciaran Hough’s header found the net.
Second half continued at the same good pace with a corner kick 2 minutes after the re-start taken by Shane Anthony Kelly which Rea Mcentee headed down for Ciaran Hough to drive it home to put the away side ahead. Rearcross however showed great fight and came back on 60 minutes with a nicely placed through ball to the left of the box to be drilled low and clipped the upright and in by Mikey O’Gorman for his 19th of the season. Good football from both sides saw a couple of chances go abegging soon after as the defences finally seemed to get on top.
Portumna got their reward on 76 minutes with a Rory Finnegan shot from 25 yards dipped past the unsuspecting keeper and int the net. 5 minutes later a left foot bending free kick from outside the box by SA Kelly found the net with a possible deflection from the unlucky defender to double Portumna’s lead.
With a minute to go a kick taken by Simon Curran into thE box found David Lynch who in turn controlled the ball and found Paddy O’Sullivan to take it through two defenders and finished well not giving the keeper a chance.
